Basil Lubbock describes Machrihanish as a very handsome main stay-sail-yarder, which she truly was. Built in 1883, she was a Duncan beauty of Hugh Hogarth's fleet and has some exceedingly fast passages to her credit. The artist has given a very fine interpretation of the clipper's beauty.
